The trend forecast for spring-summer 2010 incorporates a fresh take on prints for the women's market. From abstract effects, to large scale florals and an exploration of modern multiculturalism, surface design plays a key role in defining the season. Complete with color, motif, sensibility write-up and fabric details.

Abstract Thought

Spring 10's crop of abstract prints take inspiration from the splattering effects of Jackson Pollack, to the loose brush strokes Lee Krasner. A vivid organic kaleidoscope of ideas pulled together in monochromatic stories.
Barbara Bui. Rodarte. Temperly.

Animal Instincts

Animal inspired prints continue to evolve this Spring with updated leopard and zebra effects, as well as fresh takes on reptile (most notably the snake). Skins range from large scale graphically engineered concepts to a looser, more subtle inspiration that can be used as a micro or no-print print.
Prada. Zac Posen. Wunderkind.

Black & White

Stretching across almost every trend for the season, the strong contrast of the black and white print is a perfect staple for unstable economic conditions.
Chanel. Tuleh. Vera Wang.

In Bloom

From feminine romantic bouquets in rich, brooding palettes to inky watercolor techniques taken from Monet's water lilies; florals, in a wide array of styles, take a very strong position in almost every spring collection. Vintage ditsy motifs take an updated look on dark grounds, while large scale floral clusters pop with color on openly spaced grounds.
Oscar De La Renta. Blumarine. Vivienne Tam.

Round & Round

Circles, dots and spots! From giant spectacles to the tiniest of micros, dot patterns are everywhere. Ranging from open graphic geometrics to loose imperfect spheres, dots are used everywhere as allover twinning patterns to border accents.
Marni. Sabyasachi. Jaeger.

One Love

One love places its emphasis on exploring modern multiculturalism. It is the new ethnic reality where every culture leaves its fingerprint. From African inspired prints to Greek subtlety, the new bohemian exists in an effort to expose how our cultures and inpirations are colliding.
Junya Wantabe. Milly. Yigal Azruel.
